Insight to Action: On solving for the right outcome…
Last week I delivered two International Women’s Day workshops; one at Imperial College London, and one online for the ASEICA Society.
Of all the questions I get asked, the most frequently asked one is, “How do you manage it all?”
Managing it all sounds like a goal but it’s usually a strategy to get an outcome.
- Balance.
- Peace.
- Happiness.
- Fulfilment.
- Health.
- Energy.
- Impact.
- Freedom.
When you’re unclear on what you’re solving for, you optimise the wrong variable and become incredibly efficient at building a life you don’t actually want.
One question
What are you solving for right now in your life?
And what outcome are you actually trying to create?
One insight
“Managing it all” is a means, not an end.
- If you’re solving for energy, you’ll structure your diary differently than if you’re solving for productivity.
- If you’re solving for peace, your decisions will look different than if you’re solving for promotion.
- If you’re solving for fulfilment, you may need to subtract, not add.
Big picture clarity makes everything else simpler.
One action
Write this sentence and complete it honestly:
“Right now, I am solving for ______.”
Then ask:
- What would someone solving for that prioritise?
- What would they stop?
- What would they say no to this week?
Solve for the right outcome.
The rest gets lighter.
