Insight to Action: On take-off and landing days…

Last week I spent half term at Centre Parcs with my best friend. Five children between us. Bikes, swimming, pool, and late-night chats once the house was finally quiet.

It was full, joyful, exhausting, beautiful chaos.

But what made it restorative wasn’t just the break.
It was the edges.

No meetings, calls, or rushing from one thing to the next.

I gave myself a take-off day.
And a landing day.

One question

Where in your life are you skipping the runway and moving straight into the next thing without allowing yourself to land?

One insight

Your nervous system needs transitions.

  • Take-off days create intentional closure.
  • Landing days create conscious re-entry.

Protecting the edges protects your energy.

One action

Look at the next intense period in your calendar; holiday, project deadline, launch, big meeting, school break.

Ask yourself:

  • Can I protect the day before as a take-off day?
  • Can I protect the day after as a landing day?

If yes:

  • Block it now.
  • Remove meetings.
  • Decide how you will use it (closure, reflection, prioritising, gentle re-entry).

If no:
Can you create a 30-minute micro-landing ritual instead?

  • Journal: What just happened? What did I learn?
  • Move your body (music helps, I’m reliably told Take That from my Liberate clients 😉)
  • Tidy your workspace (one of my favourites)
  • Identify your top three priorities for re-entry.

Insight alone does not equal transformation.
