Insight to Action: On public speaking, snow, and worrying what other people will think…
This week I’m off to Boston to deliver the keynote at the SLAS Thrive in Science event.
Apparently, it’s -5°C and snowing, which feels… exciting.
I’ve not always had a positive relationship with public speaking. In fact, it used to be one of my biggest fears.
Standing on stage and being exposed to not know enough.
I worried about how I’d be perceived. What questions they might ask. What if they didn’t agree?
What I’ve come to realise is this: it was never the act of speaking that was the problem.
It was the anticipation.
The pre-emptive thoughts.
The imagined reactions.
The invisible audience in my head.
That’s what held me back, not the moment itself.
One question
Where in your life are you currently holding back because you’re worried about what other people will think?
One insight
Whose opinion actually matters here, and whose doesn’t?
One action
What is one small thing you could say or do this week if you trusted yourself more than the imagined audience?
Insight alone does not equal transformation.
Stay accountable for your insight > action by sharing it with me. WhatsApp me the word accountability, I’d love to hear from you. https://wa.me/+442080584506?text=accountability
Keep opening up,
