What will people think?

If this is a question that underpins your life (as it did mine for so many years) then you may have developed high sensitivity and empathy towards others. This increase in sensitivity means that even the slightest look, comment or reaction feels significant.

As a scientific project manager, I would attend lab group meetings and there was a period of time when one individual in particular was really being put through his paces by the PI’s. It was like a car crash; you want to look away but you can’t! I watched the PI’s intently and learned that when they looked at each other a certain way, nothing good was going to come out of their mouths next. Whenever I spoke, I would anticipate their response and it was almost an expectation that at some point I would see ‘the look’.
