You’re Nearly There Christmas Burnout

In a few days, we’ll be tucking into our Christmas dinners surrounded by wrapping paper and snoozing in front of the TV.

(Or is that wishful thinking with three excited children running around?)

I’m not very woo-woo but there does seem to have been something in the air recently. If you’re feeling worn out, fraught, tearful or exhausted, know that you’re not alone.

Social media sometimes only portrays a showreel of the best bits but I can assure you that EVERYONE that I’ve spoken to in the last week or two is feeling the same and emotions are running high.

I will be taking a couple of weeks off for Christmas and I’ll be back 7th January. August was the last time I had an extended period of time off.

Working is exhausting. But if you don’t take time out to rest, your creativity and ideas can dry up. In fact, it’s one of the 14 surprising signs of burnout.

  1. Making careless mistakes.
  2. Losing your “voice”.
  3. Feeling like you’re always failing.
  4. Taking everything personally.
  5. Exhaustion despite regular sleep.
  6. Re-upping a bad habit.
  7. Unexplained pain.
  8. Inability to concentrate.
  9. Being constantly bored.
  10. “Flat” dreams.
  11. Frequent colds (and worse)
  12. Dizziness and headaches.
  13. Being hurtful to others.
  14. Loss of creativity.

So, if you only do one thing this Christmas, I’d highly encourage it to be time out and breathing some fresh air. And I shall take a dose of my own medicine!

Have the very best Christmas and new year and I’ll see you again in the twenties!
